Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar first appeared on Broadway in October 1971 and was an instant success with the public, resulting in 720 performances and achieving nearly £3 million in ticket sales. Andrew Lloyd Weber received the highly commended Drama Desk Award as Most Promising Composer for the show in the early ‘70s and David Essex featured in the 1971 show of Jesus Christ Superstar.
After finding success in the US, Jesus Christ Superstar was brought over to the UK and was first performed at the West End at the Palace Theatre in August 1972 which starred Paul Nichols as Jesus.
In the ‘80s Jesus Christ Superstar went on to become the highest grossing show at the time earning £7.5 million and became the West End’s longest running musical.
In 2000 even the Vatican gave its blessing with the musical when it was shown at the Vatican’s official 2000 Jubilee celebrations.
Since Jesus Christ Superstar began in 1971, the show has toured all over the world with Jesus Christ Superstar tickets for the Australian arena concert breaking all records with over a million Australian fans watching the show.
Jesus Superstar The Arena Tour was announced in May 2012 with a star-studded cast.
