Carl Froch V George Groves rematch
Updated: 14 February 2014
Carl Froch and George Groves have agreed to a world title rematch to take place on 31 May.
The British super middleweight rivals will face each other on what’s anticipated to be the biggest fight in boxing history.
Carl Froch currently holds the WBA and IBF world super middleweight titles and if Groves wins he will take the titles and become a world champion.
The rematch follows from their fight in November, which came to an end under questionable circumstances when the referee, Howard Foster, ended the fight in the ninth round with the reason that Groves could no longer continue.
However, Groves was winning by points on all three of the judges’ cards and appealed for a rematch.
About Carl Froch
Carl Froch, known as Carl The Cobra Froch, dominates the super middleweight division and currently holds the WBA Super World super middleweight title and the IBF super middleweight title.
Carl Froch was born in Nottingham in 1977 and is sometimes referred to as The Sheriff of Nottingham. Throughout the years Carl Froch has held English, British and Commonwealth titles in the super middleweight division and is a two times WBC world champion.
Out of the 34 fights in his career Carl Froch has only lost twice and it was in 2012 when Carl Froch landed his IBF super middleweight title winning the previously unbeaten Lucian Bute in Nottingham.
Some of his most well-known fights include facing Mikkel Kessler in 2013 at The O2 in London where they battled it out for 12 rounds until Carl Froch won unanimously.
In 2013 Carl Froch faced George Groves with his IBF and WBA titles on the line. Froch was victorious when the referee stopped the match in the ninth round. However, some felt it was done prematurely as Groves was leading Froch on points.
A rematch was confirmed in February 2014 after much dispute. The Froch V Groves rematch will take place on Saturday 31 May 2014 with Froch V Groves tickets on sale on Monday 10 March 2014.
