Brussels Information

Visit Brussels. A mere stone's throw from the Grand-Place, on and around Rue A. Dansaert and Place St-Géry, the area's trendy bars and restaurants are always busy! Brussels is less of a city and more a collection of 19 local districts, or communes. Each commune is a vibrant local community with its own atmosphere, shops, restaurants and distinctive charm. Lovers of fine food, hearty eaters, or fans of both candlelight dinners and the more humble paper napkin: Brussels has tables to suit them all. For a change of atmosphere and scene, those who prefer more trendy establishments can reserve a table along Rue Antoine Dansaert, with its mix of restaurants and stylish avant-garde shops.

The establishments on the Grand-Place often have an upstairs area looking out over the cobbled square itself: a sight made even more magical on festival nights. The quaint little museums that are dotted around the city are often home to the most unexpected treasures. The Victor Horta museum, for instance, showcases architectural work in the 'Art Nouveau' style.

This type of architecture became very popular in the end of the 19th century. Horta mixed glass, wood and iron efficiently to create 'wavy' shapes and is probably the best-known Belgian architect. Brussels offers a wealth of excellent shopping from designer boutiques to fashion shops, craft shops and local delicacies. Enjoy some of the hundreds of varieties of Belgian beer, sample Belgian chocolates, or relax in one of the superb restaurants or cafes that line Brussels' avenues and squares.

Brussels is also home to the European Parliament. Travel to Brussels for the local fare – mussels and fries, beer, waffles, and the like – in a charming, historic setting. The capital of Belgium and permanent seat of the European Union parliament, Brussels is very much a modern-day European city. Central attractions include the EU parliament buildings and Grand Place, a historic square dotted with cafés and bars that's served as the city's commercial center for centuries.

Shopping and nightlife options abound, while numerous restaurants serve varied cuisine that reflects the city’s cultural diversity. That said, everyone should make a point of ordering moules et frites – mussels and fries – a dish for which Belgium is justly famous, and sample some of the city's beers.

Visit Brussels! Comic strip capital, city of beer, and cradle of Art Nouveau, Brussels is THE place to have fun! Explore the bustling Marolles area, take in the Grand'Place and the town hall, and don't miss the famous Manneken Pis. Brussels has an impressive Flemish Grand Place and the famous Manneken Pis fountain. Enjoy charming cafe society.

Top attractions include Grote Markt/Grand Place, Hortamuseum, Paleis voor Schone Kunsten/Palais des Beaux-Arts, Museum David en Alice van Buuren, Grote Zavel/Place du Grand Sablon, Sint-Hubertusgalerijen/Galeries Saint-Hubert Vismêt, Museum voor Moderne Kunst, Kindermuseum/Musée des Enfants and De Marollen/Les Marolles.
