Lady Antebellum formed as a band in 2006, by Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott. Scott is the daughter of country singer Linda Davis and Charles Kelley is the brother of pop singer Josh Kelley, these good family connections helped them launch themselves well, they were signed by Capitol Records in 2007. Hillary Scott later revealed in an interview that she was rejected from American Idol twice, not even getting past the first stage. The following year their debut album was released, singles ‘Love Don’t Live Here’, ‘Lookin’ For a Good Time’ and their first US number one ‘I Run to You.’ By late 2009 the album had been certified platinum.
‘Need you Now’ was the band’s fourth single and name of their second album, it enjoyed as much success as their last hit and went to number one in the US singles charts, as did the album. The album reached number one both on the Billboard Hot 200 and Top Country Albums charts and it was certified platinum four weeks after its release. They won their first Grammy Award in 2010 for Best Country Performance for their song ‘I Run to You.’ Ironically the band performed their song ‘Need You Now’ on the results show of American Idol in April 2010.
