The most celebrated and oldest rivalry in international cricket is The Ashes, the Test cricket series between the two oldest cricket nations, Australia and England.
The Ashes date back to 1882 and are named after The Sporting Times published a satirical obituary in 1882 after England lost a match on home soil against Australia at The Oval.
The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The English media dubbed the next English tour, to Australia (1882-83) as the quest to regain The Ashes.
