Alabama 3
Alabama 3 is a British band which combines gospel, dance, pop, country, jazz and blue music. The group was started when Jake Black met Rob Spragg at an acid house party in Peckham, south east London. The pair thought they could combine country music with acid house to make something special and formed Alabama 3.
The original band compromised: Piers Marsh AKA Mountain of Love: programming, keyboards, harmonica, Zoe Devlin AKA Devlin Love: vocal, Jonny Delafons AKA L. B. Dope: drums, percussion and Simon (The Dude) Edwards AKA Sir Eddie Real: percussion, vocals.
Before being named Alabama 3, the band started out as First Presleyterian Church of Elvis the Divine (UK) before changing to Alabama 3 because of trouble convincing people that they were a credible act. They then signed to One Little Indian records in 1997.
They toured in August 1997 with the name Alabama 3: Acoustic and Unplugged while having some band troubles with various members leaving the group and new band members added: Rob Spragg AKA Larry Love: vocals, Jake Black AKA The Very Reverend Dr. D. Wayne Love: vocals, Orlando Harrison AKA The Spirit: keyboards, keyboard bass, vocals, Mark Sams AKA Rock Freebase: guitar, bass guitar, Aurora Dawn: vocals, Steve Finnerty AKA LOVEPIPE: production, guitar and vocals and Nick Reynolds AKA Harpo Strangelove: harmonica, percussion, vocals.
Alabama 3 have had nine studio albums to date: Exile on Coldharbour Lane (1997), La Peste (2000), Power in the Blood (2002), Last Train to Mashville, Volume 2 (2003), Outlaw (2005), M.O.R.
