About Isle of Wight Festival
The first Isle of Wight Festival opened its gates in 1968 and over the next 3 summers saw legendary performances by Mark Bolan (T-Rex), Bob Dylan and one of the last major performances of Jimi Hendrix before his untimely death in 1970.
Festival Organisers revived the original idea of the Isle of Wight Festival and at the beginning of the new century. The Isle of Wight Festival was back in 2002. Over the past years the festival has become one of the UK’s top summer festivals with stunning line-ups and most beautiful scenery to beat.
A selection of rock legends, up-and-coming acts and current chart toppers have since shredded their guitars and beaten their drum kits in front of a party-mad but always friendly and fun young crowd. Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, The Charlatans, R.E.M., The Prodigy, Coldplay, Paul Weller, The Who, Muse, The Rolling Stones, Snow Patrol, Sex Pistols, The Police, Kaiser Chiefs, and Neil Young are among many more music legends that have performed at the Isle of Wight Festival in the past.
