Leeds Festival
Leeds Festival forms part of the Leeds and Reading Festival which takes place at Bramham Park, Leeds. The origins of the festivals’ roots came from Reading Festival which began life as a jazz festival and was founded by Harold Pendleton in 1961.
The original location for the Leeds Festival was at Temple Newsam, Leeds in 1999, but was moved to the Bramham Park in 2003.
The music progressed to a harder, punk rock sound by the 1980’s and has remained a predominately rock and indie festival ever since. In the 2000’s the festival evolved and included dance music from 2004 onwards.
The capacity increased over the years, with Leeds Festival 2011 reaching 75,000 and Leeds tickets selling out in record time in 2008. It has become one of the most eagerly awaited fixtures in the British festival calendar, with previous headliners such as Blur, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, The Killers and Rage Against The Machine.
