Manchester welcomes the summer with a number of open-air headline concerts from the UK’s biggest artists. The concert series returns to the Castlefield Bowl this July with another impressive line-up.
Kicking things off is Scotland’s Paolo Nutini with a headline show on Thursday 2 July. The multi-platinum, genre-defying singer-songwriter released his third album Caustic Love in 2014. The album became his second No.1 in the UK and produced a string of hit singles including Scream (Funk Up My Life) and Iron Sky.
The following evening the Beautiful South’s Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott take to the stage. The duo began working together again in 2013 releasing What Have We Become? in 2014. What followed was a Top 5 hit and sell-out shows across the country including in London.
Saturday 3 July sees the Tim Burgess led band, the Charlatans, headline the Castlefield Bowl. The acclaimed indie group, who formed in 1989, released their twelfth studio album in early 2015. Proving they’re a band on top form, it was their highest-charting album since 2001’s Wonderland.
Manchester’s Summer in the City will come to a colossal end on Saturday 11 July when Noel Gallagher takes to the stage for a homecoming gig. The Mancunian released his chart-topping solo album Chasing Yesterday earlier this year under Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The singer will be accompanied by his band for the show.
