V Festival
V Festival is a music festival which is held at the penultimate weekend in August. It spans two days over two locations, Weston Park, Staffordshire and Hylands Park, Chelmsford. Originally named V96 (but later changed to V Festival in 2003), the festival began life in 1996 as the brainchild of Pulp front man Jarvis Cocker, who conceived the idea to hold the event at two locations so that people from both the North and South of England could enjoy the event.
In ‘97 the festival in the North was briefly held at Temple Newsam in Leeds to allow space for camping and parking but moved back to Weston Park in ‘99. The festival is a combination of pop, indie rock and dance music. Previous headliners to have played at V Festival include: Pulp, Coldplay, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Blur, Muse, Moby and Kings of Leon. V Festival tickets have been quick to sell out as the ever-popular stages continue to attract an eclectic mix of people.
V Festival has continued to excite and pull in the crowds, with V Festival tickets selling out in record times. V2009 proved to be particularly memorable as it was the last gig that Oasis played at before they split up. The following year Cheryl Cole was also forced to pull out after she came down with life threatening malaria.
