Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga head to London’s Royal Albert Hall in June 2015 for a very special performance in aid of WellChild.
The duo’s A Gala Evening In Support of WellChild charity concert will take place on Monday 8 June and sees Gaga and Bennett joined by a big band and full orchestra.
An evening full of jazz – Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga will sing the hits from their recent collaboration album Cheek to Cheek, which is a collection of classic Jazz standards covered brilliantly by the pair.
The collection includes tracks from It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) to Anything Goes. The album debuted at No.1 in the US.
The occasion marks Lady Gaga’s first time performing at the Royal Albert Hall while it will be Tony Bennett’s 20th performance at the iconic London venue.
Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga – Cheek to Cheek collaboration
At first an unlikely combination – the jazz singer and the flamboyant, outré pop star – but ultimately it turned out to be an incredible pairing.
After meeting at a Gala in New York, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett first worked together in 2011 when Gaga lent her vocal talent to his Duets II album. The pair recorded the 1937 show tune The Lady Is A Tramp and both Bennett’s and Gaga’s performances received praise.
The duo went on to release an accompanying video, which focused on the talent of each performer. Unlike Gaga’s usual videos, the film simply features Gaga and Bennett performing the track together which showcased each of the singers’ abilities.
Their early collaboration was a success and they went on to perform several concerts together. It also proved to be the foundation of their later collaboration. In 2013 it was confirmed that they would record a jazz album together.
Their album was recorded throughout 2013 and includes 11 classic jazz standards from the likes of Cole Porter to Irving Berlin.
A roaring success, the collection shot straight to No.1 in the US following its release. This was Lady Gaga’s third consecutive top-charting album and Bennett’s second.
