Spanish MotoGP
The purpose-built state-of-the-art Circuit de Catalunya was opened just outside Barcelona in 1991 due to a venture of the Catalan Autonomous Government, the Montmelo Town Council and the Royal Automobile Club of Catalunya (RACC).
Ever since the initial event, the Spanish F1 Grand Prix, the Circuit de Catalunya stages some of the high calibre events in motorsport diaries, including the European Motorcycle Grand Prix and Grand Premio de Catalunya.
But trophies are not only won by the racing teams. In 2001 the 104,000 capacity course bagged the much coveted IRTA ‘Best Grand Prix’ prize and is considered by many as one of the best designed circuits.
