The charity concert comes after the success of the first Under 1 Roof in 2011. That year they managed to raise over £400,000 with help from Tinie Tempah, Rob Brydon, Emeli Sandé and Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge who all joined Coldplay on stage.
Along with the charity concert, Coldplay are holding an internet auction selling instruments and outfits from their last world tour; Mylo Xyloto. The auction is to further raise money for Kids Company.
Coldplay have been a huge success since Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland formed the band in 1997. Their debut album “Parachutes” managed to the land Coldplay with a Mercury Prize nomination in 2000. The single “Yellow” from the album soon became one of their most well-known and most loved tracks.
It was in 2001, after the release of the album “A Rush Of Blood To The Head”, that Coldplay first started to conquer the US market. U2 invited Coldplay to tour with them across the US as part of their Elevation Tour.
Coldplay continued to be successful with winning my end-of-year polls including ‘Best New Act’, ‘Best Live Band’ and ‘Album of the Year’. 2004 saw the release of their ‘X&Y’ album, which landed the number one spot in the UK. The band was a huge success and much anticipation now rested on their next offering. However, it wasn’t until four years later that the band released “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends”. Their fifth studio album “Mylo Xyloto” was released in 2011.
On top of their hugely successful music career Coldplay have constantly supported many charities, including Kids Company. Kids Company provides educational and emotional support to children across London and Bristol. Their support transforms the lives of children who are in some of the most deprived situations.
Under 1 Roof tickets were popular in 2011 and it’s expected that tickets for the event will sell out quickly.
