Taylor Swift and her 1989 album have come out on top on the list of the biggest global recording artists of 2014.
The Shake It Off singer – who’s in the UK later this month as part of her 1989 world tour – was named the biggest global recording artist of 2014, which is based on album sales, downloads and streams.
The 25-year-old singer topped the pole with her fifth album 1989. The album sold over 6million copies worldwide. It’s opening week saw sales of over 1 million in the US.
The data also showed a strong Brit presensce in worldwide music with One Direction (Four), Ed Sheeran (X), and Coldplay (Ghost Stories) named the second, third and fourth biggest recording artists respectively.
Taylor Swift’s 1989 saw her move in a new musical direction, which moved away from her country roots and took a more pop focus. The album that topped both the UK and US chart includes the singles Shake It Off, Blanks Space, Style and Bad Blood.
In support of 1989, Taylor Swift will tour the UK and Ireland during June. The tour includes a massive open air show in London’s Hyde Park, which is part of the British Summer Time Hyde Park festival. The tour will also visit Glasgow, Manchester and Dublin. Tickets are now on sale here.
