Premier League Darts Comes Up Trumps
18 Apr 2012
Snooker Chief Barry Hearn spoke To The Sun about the current surge of popularity for Premier League Darts.
Unbelievably, the crowds at Premier League Darts tournaments are 75 per cent more than Premier League games – who would have thought it!?
10,000 fans are expected to come to the O2 Arena in London with 9,000 who have already attended the O2, Dublin in March 2012.
The quality of players is a key reason behind the surge of interest in the sport. Barry Hearn wrote: “The credit belongs to the players who are producing such brilliant darts to entertain fans across the UK, not least Phil Taylor. He is unbeaten this season after being written off by his critics just three months ago.
When you look at his field of opponents in the Premier League — such as Adrian Lewis, Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade and Gary Anderson — and the fact that four months ago he was being written off in some quarters, Phil’s form is even more astounding.”
With top games still to be played for, it’s an exciting time in Premier League Darts. Van Barneveld is competing against Simon Whitlock at the BIC, Bournemouth on Thursday (the 18th) which should be exciting, with both players looking for that place in the play-offs at the O2 Arena, London on 17th May 2012.
