Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys Release Smile
14 Mar 2011
40 years after its originally planned release date, The Beach Boys with estranged lead singer and songwriter, Brian Wilson have finally put their differences aside and finished work on what would have been the band’s follow-up to their seminal album “Pet Sounds” in 1967.
The album in question is titled “Smile.” “Smile” has become the stuff of legends amongst music lovers and although several music pieces have surfaced over the decades, the main body of work was believed to be destroyed by Brian Wilson. The Guardian reported today Brian Wilson was “thrilled” fans will soon “hear the angelic voices of the boys” as “Smile” was originally intended.
Brian Wilson released his own version of “Smile” in 2004. This re-recorded version did not feature any of the other Beach Boys. A release date for the original version “Smile” has yet to be announced but the record company insists the release is definitely going ahead.
Brian Wilson arrives in the UK to play the Isle of Wight Festival on Thursday, 8th September and a string of own headline dates in Glasgow (11th Sep.), Manchester (13th Sep.) and Birmingham (14th Sep.) before taking residency at the Royal Festival Hall, where the former Beach Boy performs on 13th, 16th, 17th and 18th September.
