Arctic Monkeys Knock Off Lady Gaga
09 Jun 2011
Following the band's UK tour announcement, the new Arctic Monkeys album "Suck it and See" looks likely to push Lady Gaga off the album charts top position.
Ever since the Arctic Monkeys’ first release, the 4x Platinum debut “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not,” Alex Turner and his merry men have been enjoying success after success and the new album "Suck it and See" along with its lead single "Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair" is likely to continue this tradition.
Mid-week sales charts suggest that Sheffield’s finest current pop export has knocked Lady Gaga off the album top spot. “Suck it and See” feels like a more grown-up version of the band’s hit-fuelled 2006 debut. Once again, the band invited producer James Ford to overlook the recording sessions. Talking about the new songs, singer and songwriter, Alex Turner explains, "the recording techniques were a little bit more traditional. (…) We did a lot of live takes, with the four of us playing and we wanted to get a human feel to it."
Fearing long-time fans might get put off the new direction, Turner explains "(the album) has its moments that are a bit more like the chimey guitar thing . . . I Suppose that does give it quite a mellow aspect," Turner says. "I guess probably compared with the first two (albums), it is not as fast and crazy as they were. But it has moments like that - bit of both."
