25 Jul 2011
Adele remains at the top of the UK album charts with her current album “21” and her debut, “19” at Number 3.
Amy Winehouse’s tragic death on Saturday has sparked a surge in sales of her Grammy Award winning albums, “Frank” and “Back To Black.”
The Official Charts Company reports a 37-time sale increase of her albums, while her singles sales increased 23 times.
Martin Talbot, MD of the Official Charts Company comments on Amy Winehouse’s post-humous chart return, “We would expect an even bigger impact to roll through over the coming days. Such a demonstration of her popularity is the best tribute the British public can pay to this extraordinary British talent.”
Tributes to the late star have been pouring from fans and celebrities alike. Russell Brand and Kelly Osbourne have published personal tributes, while U2’s Bono dedicated the performance of their song, “Stuck In A Moment” on stage in Minneapolis last night to Amy Winehouse.
