Matt Cardle Takes Xmas No1 Spot
X Factor winner, Matt Cardle has scooped this year’s UK Christmas Number 1 with his single “When We Collide.”

“When We Collide” is Cardle’s take of “Many Of Horror,” a song by Mercury-Prize-nominated Scottish indie act, Biffy Clyro. Cardle’s winning version has shifted over 439,000 copies since the former builder and decorator from Essex was crowned winner of the 2010 X Factor show a week ago.

Cardle’s chart-topping song has also brought Biffy Clyro’s original back into the Top-10. “Many Of Horror” takes an impressive #8 spot in this week’s charts.

Matt Cardle’s “When We Collide” was up against Rihanna’s “What’s My Name (Featuring Drake)” but outsold the R&B star by 300,000 copies. On third place is “Surfin Bird” by The Trashmen. The song, popular from the animated TV series, Family Guy and originally released in 1963 sold just under 70,000 copies this week on the back of one of the many anti-Simon Cowell Facebook campaigns.

Far behind is another, highly-publicised anti-X Factor Facebook campaign, “Cage Against The Machine.” The cover of John Cage’s track of 4.33 minutes of silence failed to make an impact on the charts this week, despite the campaign’s impressive string of collaborators, including Billy Bragg and Madness' Suggs, backed by a strong media support by amongst others, The Guardian.

Take That and Robbie William’s latest album, “The Progress” remains firmly at the top spot of the UK album charts despite stiff competition. Trailing behind Take That are Rihanna’s “Loud,” Michael Buble’s “Crazy Love” and the posthumously released Michael Jackson album, “Michael.”

Take That’s Robbie Williams is also enjoying a Top-10 hit with his Greatest Hits compilation, “In And Out Of Consciousness.”
