BBC Proms Tickets Selling Fast
14 May 2013
Tickets for the BBC Proms 2013 are selling very fast, since they went on sale over the weekend.
The ever popular annual event is taking place Friday 12th July 2013 until Saturday 7th September 2013, for the infamous Last Night of the Proms.
As part of the BBC Proms schedule 2013, The Doctor Who Proms will return for its 50th anniversary, and BBC 6 Music will be hosting its first prom with Brit award winner Laura Marling.
The Doctor Who Proms will feature scenes from the much-loved British TV series, as well music created by its teenage fans.
As with all BBC Proms, the ever popular First Night of the Proms has created the most ticket sales, with Sakari Oramo conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra, closely followed with The Doctor Who Proms (13th and 14th July) and the Bavarian Radio Symphony on 8th and 9th July.
The BBC Proms will be broadcast live on BBC 3, and there will be even more BBC coverage than ever this year.
Jasper Hope, the chief operating officer for the Royal Albert Hall spoke out about his astonishment on the popularity of this year’s BBC Proms:
"With 50 years of the Doctor coinciding with anniversaries for Wagner, Verdi and Britten amongst others, not to mention concerts by the Stranglers and the Vienna Philharmonic, we expected another level of demand this year but this is extraordinary."
Another big event for this year’s BBC Proms is the 200th anniversary of Wagner’s birth, and to celebrate, there will be a special performance of his Ring cycle by Staatskapelle Berlin, conducted by Israeli-Argentine Daniel Barenboim.
There will also be a special concert to commemorate the life of the late London Symphony Orchestra conductor Sir Colin Davis, who passed away last month. The concert will be held on the 20th August 2013.
