One Direction fastest selling album of 2014
02 Dec 2013
One Direction’s latest offering, Midnight Memories, has debuted at the No.1 spot and nabbed the title of the fastest selling album of 2013.
Although One Direction missed out on being the 1000th No.1 their new album, Midnight Memories, has become the fastest selling album of 2013.
Midnight Memories is the third album released by the X Factor boy band and has become their fastest selling album to date.
Official Charts Company’s Chief Executive, Martin Talbot, said on their website, “It is a fantastic first week for One Direction, whose album is not just the fastest seller of the year - but is also the first artist title to sell more than 200,000 copies in a week since Michael Buble‘s Christmas album in December, 2011.
“The success really does send a signal that the festive season is almost with us - and means 1D are now real contenders to claim the biggest album of the year.”
The album snagged the top spot from Gary Barlow, who released Since I Saw You Last this week. Gary also knocked band mate Robbie Williams off of the top spot and opened with more sales than Robbie.
One Direction’s single, Story Of My Life, is currently sat in the No.3 position of the Official Singles Chart after five weeks in the chart.
Next year the boys are embarking on a 2014 stadium tour which will see them perform at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, Etihad Stadium, Manchester, Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, and Wembley Stadium, London.
