Miley Cyrus named Best Artist of 2013
The music channel, MTV, has named Miley Cyrus as their Best Artist of 2013.

The news follows from Miley Cyrus missing out on winning TIME’s Person of the Year award.

Miley Cyrus, who performed at the MTV European Music Awards in Amsterdam and caused controversy for lighting a joint while on stage, beat the likes of One Direction, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West.

The Daily Mail reported that Amy Doyle, head of MTV's music and talent programming strategy, said, “She dominated the music charts and critics' best-of lists while creating some of the year's most memorable moments.”

During the MTV EMA Miley lost out to Katy Perry and Lady Gaga for the Best Pop and Best Female award; both acts made the runner up for Best Artist of 2013.

The Wrecking Ball star has been making headlines since releasing her latest album Bangerz. Along with the release of the album came a new image and controversial performances.

Her video, Wrecking Ball, in which the star appears naked bagged her the Best Video award at the MTV EMA.

Miley Cyrus announced earlier this week that she would bring her Bangerz tour to the UK in 2014.
