Beyonce breaks iTunes record with surprise album
17 Dec 2013
Beyoncé, who unexpectedly released her fifth album on iTunes during Thursday night, has broken the iTunes record of the fastest selling album in the world.
Her visual album, entitled Beyoncé, was released exclusively to iTunes with no promotion or prior warning – the album sold 828,773 copies in the first three days. Prior to Beyoncé, Taylor Swift held the title of top seller with 465,000 copies sold in her opening week.
As well as taking that title, Beyoncé landed in the UK top five after just two days of the album on sale.
Beyoncé managed to debut her album, which no one was aware of initially, during one of the busiest weeks in the charts in the No.5 spot. The album sold almost 68,000 copies in the UK.
The album, which features 14 new songs and 17 music videos, features collaborations from Jay Z, Drake and even Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy. The album is set to be released as a hard copy on 20 December.
The album follows Beyoncé’s announcement that she will return to the UK in 2014 with her Mrs. Carter Show with tickets on sale now. For full tour information and tickets click here.
