X Factor winner Sam Bailey takes Christmas No1
22 Dec 2013
This year’s X Factor winner, Sam Bailey, has landed the coveted Christmas No.1 spot.
Sam reached No.1 with her debut single Skyscraper, a cover of Demi Lovato’s track, beating Pharrell William’s Happy two to one.
The former prison officer beat previous X Factor winner Leona Lewis with her track One More Sleep, which came in at No.3 while Pharrell was at No.2
Sam, who worked as a prison officer before taking part in the competition, was announced as the winner of this year’s X Factor last Sunday having beat Nicholas McDonald and Luke Friend.
Other contenders for this year’s No.1 included AC/DC who managed to land their first UK top 10 and ended up in the No.4 position with High Way To Hell after an internet campaign to boycott the X Factor single was created.
Lilly Allen, who was a firm favourite, spent three weeks at No.1 with her single Somewhere Only We Know that was featured on the John Lewis advert. However, she only managed the No.6 spot during the Christmas week.
Sam has become the sixth X Factor winner to make it to No.1 with proceeds of the single going to the charities Great Ormond Street Children's Charity and Together For Short Lives.
She will also be taking part in the X Factor Live tour, along with other contestants, with tickets on sale now.
