Ed Sheeran leads UK albums chart for sixth week
04 Aug 2014
Ed Sheeran has held onto the No.1 spot for a sixth consecutive week with his second studio album X.
The redheaded singer has maintained his lead at the top of the UK charts for the sixth week running beating Dolly Parton’s Blue Smoke (No.2), Eric Clapton (No.3), Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (No.4) and George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage (No.5).
Last week, Ed Sheeran was reported to hold the second longest consecutive run at No.1 since 2011 when Adele’s 21 stayed at the top of the charts for eleven weeks.
The album, which he will take on tour around the UK and Ireland later this year, includes the lead single Sing. The track became Sheeran’s first UK no.1 single and was produced by Pharrell Williams.
Along with the huge success of X, Ed Sheeran will embark on his biggest UK tour later this year following his performances at V Festival in August.
The Ed Sheeran tour will take place throughout October and will include 20 dates across the UK and Ireland. It will be the first time the 23-year old singer has headlined UK arenas. Ed Sheeran tickets are now on sale.
