Queens Brian May releases The Red Special guitar book
02 Oct 2014
Queen’s Brian May has released the book detailing the creation of his legendary guitar The Red Special.
Queen’s iconic guitarist, Brain May, has compiled the history of his guitar which he made 50 years ago with his father and has since used on every Queen album and live show.
Brian May and his father Harold created the guitar, named The Red Special, in 1963 in the hope to create an instrument better than commercially made ones that were on offer at the time.
Now May has published the book that details the history of this guitar which has been used throughout the world at every live Queen show along with featuring on each Queen album.
Brain May stated, “This book about my home-made guitar has been waiting in the wings for a very long time… There are now a few thousand Red Special replicas in the world, but my first love still keeps some of her mystery. She is, after all, a one-off!”
The release of The Red Special follows the news that Queen will return to arenas in the UK during 2015. The group will bring their critically-acclaimed tour, Queen + Adam Lambert, to Britain in January.
The tour sees Adam Lambert in the role of frontman and will visit Newcastle, Glasgow, London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham. Queen tickets are now on sale.
