British singer-songwriters Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith have been shortlisted in the Favourite Album category at the People’s Choice Awards 2015.
The People’s Choice Awards 2015 have opened up nominee voting with Sheeran, aged 23, seeing his album X make the cut while Smith’s debut release In The Lonely Hour has resulted in his nomination.
Both records have earned some series chart love in the UK with X spending eight weeks in poll position and In The Lonely Hour staying at the top of the charts for four weeks.
The two have also conquered the US with Sheeran’s album landing him a US No.1 and Smith’s collection entering the Top 5 on the Billboard 200.
Sam Smith has also enjoyed three No.1 singles in the UK – Stay With Me, Money On Mind and La La La – all before his 23rd birthday.
The People’s Choice Awards’ nominee voting process allows fans to vote for who they want the final five nominees to be in each category.
Sheeran and Smith face competition from a further eight contenders including the likes of Pharrell Williams’ GIRL, Barbra Streisand’s Partners, 5 Seconds Of Summer self-titled debut release and Coldplay’s Ghost Stories.
Nominee voting takes place from 21 October until 30 October with finalist voting getting underway from 4 November. The People’s Choice Awards 2015 will take place on 7 January 2015.
