In just four short years, One Direction have achieved global status melting the hearts of fans across the world. Here’s how they did it.
August 2010: Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, LouisTomlinson and Niall Horan auditioned as solo artists on The X Factor.
August 2010: The boys were better together. The X Factor created the group during the ‘Bootcamp’ stages.
December 2010: Finishing third on The X Factor, Simon Cowell signed the boys to his label SyCo.
January 2011: Off to LA! They started work on their debut album.
September 2011: What Makes You Beautiful, their first single, was released charting at No.1.
November 2011: 1D prepared to take on America with a deal with Columbia Records.
November 2011: They released their first album, Up All Night.
December 2011: They headed out on their first headline tour of the UK and Ireland.
September 2012: Fans were treated to the first single, Live While We’re Young, from their second album.
November 2012: They earned their second No.1 single with Little Things.
November 2012: Their second album, Take Me Home, was released landing 1D their first No.1 album in the UK.
February 2013: 1D embarked on their biggest tour which visited the UK, Ireland, North America and Australia.
November 2013: Album number three. Midnight Memories earned the band their second UK No.1.
November 2013: 1D Day became a thing with the first one taking place on 23 November.
August 2013: One Direction were named the world’s best-selling artist with Midnight Memories selling four million copies.
April 2014: Graduating to stadiums. The band head out on their huge world tour.
May 2014: Their Where We Are tour landed in Ireland.
September 2014: Their fourth album, Four, headed to the top of iTunes chart in 67 countries ahead of its release.
November 2014: 1D released Four
November 2014: Harry, Zayn, Louis, Liam and Nial landed their third UK No.1 album in three years.
November 2014: The boys announced plans to bring their world tour to the UK.
December 2014: Four became their fourth consecutive US No.1.
One Direction look set for world domination and with their next tour taking place in 2015 there’s no stopping Britain’s biggest boy band.
1D will bring On The Road Again to the UK in June starting with a huge concert at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. The tour will continue in September with concerts in the biggest arenas in the UK and Ireland.
