Twitter celebrates 5 years of One Direction

One Direction have a hit a milestone. The boyband has turned five and fans on Twitter have been celebrating the landmark.
The group celebrated five years together on Wednesday 22 July. Fans of the boys were quick to express their excitement on Twitter with a number of hashtags becoming trends, including #5yearsofOneDirection.
The X Factor got involved by posting a video of how the group formed on the show.
The excitement continued when #ThankYou1Dfor became a worldwide trend. The hashtag saw fans post their memories and photos about the group.
Harry Styles posted on Twitter about the milestone. He tweeted, “To you who support us, in any way, thank you. We wouldn't be here without you. You did this and we thank you for having us. All the love”
One Direction, who formed in 2010 on The X Factor after auditioning as solo singers, have released four studio albums. The group are the first band to see their first four collections debut at No.1 in the US.
Their current line-up includes original members Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Zayn Malik left the band in 2015 during their On The Road Again tour.
The boys will be back in the UK and Ireland in September. They will perform residences in a number of arenas around the country. The tour supports Four, which is their fourth studio album. Tickets are now on sale here for their UK tour.
