One Direction land first Australian No1 single
10 Aug 2015
One Direction’s Drag Me Down has earned the boys their first No.1 single in Australia.
It’s been a crazy year for One Direction with Zayn Malik leaving the band, but now they’ve proven they’re stronger than ever by landing their first No.1 single in Australia.
The single was a surprise release on Friday 31 July and it was an instant hit. The track enjoyed 4.75 million streams during the first day of its release. If that wasn’t enough, it became No.1 on the Spotify Global Chart and No.1 in several countries on the iTunes chart.
Now, the single has landed the boys their very first No.1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The band recently had a hit in Australia with Live While We’re Young, which peaked at number two.
The news follows success in the UK. The single went straight to the top of the UK Singles Chart and smashed the streaming record with 2.03 million streams in its first week.
Drag Me Down is the group’s first single as a four-piece and is the lead track from their upcoming fifth album.
Meanwhile, One Direction will start their UK tour next month. The group will play multiple arena gigs in cities such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. 1D tickets are now on sale here.
