London, Hyde Park
Sunday, 15th July 2012 (Tickets Here)
Paul Simon arrived as one-half of the legendary acoustic duo Simon and Garfunkel, who scored hits with classics, such as “Sound of Silence,” “I Am A Rock” and “Mrs. Robinson.”
Following the split from his songwriting partner, Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon launched a very successful solo career in which he experimented with his various musical influences. “Graceland” arrived in 1986 and was the follow-up release to 1983’s “Hearts & Bones.”
The album is the result of Paul Simon’s love and willingness to experiment and let his various musical influences into the songwriting process. American Roots music, Rock, Pop, Jazz and World Music and in particular African musical influences can be found on “Graceland.”
The single “You Can Call Me Al” was released on 5th September 1986 and not only offered the “Sound of Silence” star a massive chart-success but the song and its accompanying music video with Chevy Chase lip-syncing alongside Paul Simon both turned the song into Paul Simon’s trademark song for which he is now best known for. “Graceland” is a collection of collaborations with artists from various musical backgrounds. Guitar visionary Adrian Belew (guitarist with David Bowie) is on the album as are The Everly Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, Los Lobos, Steve Gadd (legendary session drummer with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, etc) and Africa’s most-famous musical export, Youssou N'Dour (“7 Seconds”) amongst many more.
“Graceland” gets continuously voted into All-Time Best Album lists and ranks amongst the best-selling rock and pop albums of all times.
