Lostprophets Ian Watkins On Working With Labrinth
04 Apr 2012
Lostprohets’ frontman Ian Watkins has spoken about working with Labrinth and spending money as a rockstar.
The Welsh teen-angst rocker collaborated with the chart-storming rapper Labrinth on his track “Earthquake.” The track was originally intended to be included on the last Lostprophets album but the collaboration took longer and Labrinth finished the track later on his own and put it out on last year’s album “Electronic Earth.”
"We worked on a track together but took so long he ended up finishing it on his own – it became his hit single Earthquake.” explains the Lostprophets singer "It was cool to hear somebody else’s interpretation of it as ours was very rock. Labrinth wanted to work with someone outside his genre and so did we. It’s interesting to see where songs that have the same genesis can be taken."
Ian Watkins and his Lostprohets have gone from strength to strength. In their 12 year career the band has released a string of Gold and Platinum certified albums, such as 2004’s “Start Something” and the UK #1 album “Liberation Transmission” in 2006.
Speaking about the first time Ian and his band mates made money from writing music, Watkins admits he spent his hard-earned on an expensive watch.
"On the second record (2004’s “Start Something”) we started to earn some money, so we spent some of it. Being Welsh and working class, no one had given us financial advice so I bought a diamond-encrusted Chanel watch."
Lostprophets are set to embark on their 2012 UK tour in support of their latest album “Weapons” and its current single “Bring ‘em Down.” The tour kicks off at the Dublin Olympia Theatre on April 15th and runs into May with the final night at the London O2 Academy Brixton on May 4th 2012.
