The Darkness Announce Hot Cakes
30 May 2012
“Hot Cakes” is the title of the 3rd studio album by The Darkness.
The Glam-Rocker have announced the follow-up to “One Way Ticket To Hell and Back” (2005). “Hot Cakes” will hit the retailers on August 20th and is produced by long-time collaborator Nick Brine and the Darkness brothers, Justin and Dan Hawkins.
Speaking about the new songs, Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins believes the songs connect with their previous work. “Hot Cakes' has a nice raw feel to it,” says Justin Hawkins and explains, “like the first album had, with occasional luxurious moments akin to the second. We're proud of the songs and we can't wait for people to hear them. We've been playing a lot of the material from the album in the live set for some time now. Each time we play a new song it feels like a deep powerful thrust in a frenzied love ritual between us and our fans.”
Fans will also finally get a studio version of the band’s cover of Radiohead’s “Street Spirit (Fade Out).” The Darkness have performed their version of the song on many occasions and it has become a live favourite amongst fans.
"We included the Radiohead cover because it has been a live favourite for many moons,” explains Justin Hawkins “(…) we wanted to release a definitive recording of our interpretation."
The Darkness will perform the new songs off “Hot Cakes” along with their classics when the band opens in September for Lady Gaga on her gargantuan “Born This Way Ball” UK tour and at Belsonic Festival in Belfast and at their own headline show at Thetford Forest near Brandon.
Justin Hawkins’ The Darkness will be rocking Lady Gaga’s sold-out crowds at London Twickenham Stadium (8th & 9th September 2012), Manchester Arena (11th September 2012) and Dublin Aviva Stadium (15th September 2012).
