About Andrea Bocelli
Andrea Bocelli, the Italian tenor and singer-songwriter, has sold over 80 million records worldwide, earned a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has won over 25 awards.
Born in 1958, Andrea Bocelli was pronounced blind at the age of 12 following an accident during a football match. As a boy he learned to play the piano, flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar and drums.
It was in 1992 when he received his big break. The Italian rock singer Zucchero held auditions to sing on a demo tape with the song Miserere, to send to the late tenor Luciano Pavarotti. Pavarotti persuaded Zucchero to record the duet with Andrea Bocelli instead of himself.
He went on to have many solo parts on Zucchero’s tour. Along with Zucchero and Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli has also collaborated with star soprano Sarah Brightman, most notably on their worldwide hit Time to Say Goodbye. It sold a staggering three million copies.
Throughout his career he has recorded fourteen solo studio albums including Bocelli (1995), Sentimento (2003) and, his most recent, Passione (2013), along with nine complete operas and three greatest hits albums. He has also released several collaborative albums, video albums and live albums.
Andrea Bocelli has managed to be a hugely successful cross-over performer with his range of albums that include pop and classical music along with his operas. A feat that very few stars manage.
