Andrea Bocelli
Andrea Bocelli (Grand officer OMRI) is a well known tenor from Tuscany, Italy. He was born on 22nd September 1958 and raised at his parent’s farm in Lajatico.
Andrea Bocelli is most famous for his duet with soprano Sarah Brightman with the beautiful “Time to say Goodbye” which he produced in 1996 and was a worldwide smash hit. Andrea Bocelli has received a number of high-profile accolades over the years, Two 2000 Classical BRIT Awards for "Best selling classical album" and "Album of the year" for Sacred Arias in 2000, World Music Awards for "World's Best-selling Classical Artist" in 2010 and ECHO music award for "Best Single of the Year", for Time to Say Goodbye, in 1997.
From an early age, Andrea Bocelli suffered an eye accident which resulted in him going by blind by his early teens. This did not impede him in anyway, and he discovered his talent for music, starting with the piano first, age six and moving onto the flute and saxophone. He found his passion for singing but had to subsidize his lessons by playing in local piano bars.
This was all to change when he won the 1994 Newcomers section at the Sanremo Festival, the rest is history. Bocelli the first album provided the hits "Miserere" and "Funiculì, Funiculà" with guitarist John Miles. This was followed with Viaggio Italiano and in September 1997 went on to perform for the Pope.
In 1998 came his fifth album Aria - The Opera Album which was a success. Andrea Bocelli tickets sold out for his shows across North and South American, filling the entirety of Madison Square Gardens in 1998. He went onto perform all over Europe in December 1999 and amassed a total of 24 shows in just 30 days!
After being nominated in the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000, Andrea Bocelli embarked on his "World Tour 2000" and his live concerts saw him perform across Asia and the U.S.A. Throughout the 2000’s, Brocelli grew from strength to strength, performing in operas and singing with revered opera singers such as Pavarotti.
Throughout 1994-2009, Andrea Bocelli went onto produce 13 studio albums and a number of collaborative productions and hit singles.
