The annual BBC Proms returns to the London Royal Albert Hall this summer between 15th July – 20th September.

The first Proms were held in 1895 at London’s Queen’s Hall and the idea behind The Proms was to make classical music attractive to the wider public in an informal setting. In fact, early Proms allowed eating, drinking and smoking in the venue.

The BBC have commissioned a new website for the BBC Proms 2011. The company magneticNorth have created a new online and mobile version of the site which promises to make it easier to buy BBC Proms tickets and watch performances live online. Steve Grace from magneticNorth, said: "When the Proms was started by Robert Newman and Henry Wood in 1895, it was to bring the best music to the masses. This site supports these values today by giving more people access to the experience, and the ability to watch and listen to the incredible variety of prom performances."
