Tragic love, loyalty, betrayal, suspense - Verdi’s classic opera Aida tells the story of captured and enslaved Ethiopian princess Aida and her love to one of her captors, the Egyptian military commander, Radames. In a bizarre twist of fate, Aida’s father, King Amonasro, gets also captured by Radames’s army but daughter and father manage to flee with help by Radames. For his betrayal, Radames is sentenced to death, leading to the dramatic finale of Verdi’s masterpiece, where Aida chooses to die side-by-side with Radames.
