La Boheme established Giacomo Puccini as the great lyricist as we know today. La Boheme is the semi-autobiography of Puccini’s own experiences during his years as student in Milan where he shared a room with Pietro Mascagni.
The premiere of La Bohème was held at the Teatro Regio in Turin on February 1st, 1896 with soprano Cesira Ferrani in the role of ‘Mimi’ and tenor Evan Gorga as ‘Rodolfo’. Arturo Toscanini directed the orchestra.
