Born William James Adams, the US singer, songwriter, producer and much more; will.i.am has proven to be a true all-rounder in the music and entertainment business.
Will.i.am’s first step into the world of music occurred whilst he was growing up in bustling L.A, where he began going to raves, and was inspired to produce club music. He was known in his early days as Will 1X, and formed a rap partnership with rapper Allan Pineda (apl.de.ap) and student Dante Santiago.
In 2003, will.i.am with his pop-dance group The Black Eyed Peas, released their platinum #1 debut album Elephunk which featured female vocalist Fergie for the first time. The album proved to be a massive success for the group, with hits such as “Where Is The Love?” and “Shut Up”.
Will.i.am and The Black Eyed Peas went their separate ways in the late ‘2000s whilst they pursued solo projects. will.i.am focused on a solo album Songs About Girls, and contributed to President Barack Obama’s inaugural election soundtrack.
In 2009, The Black Eyed Peas reunited for their Grammy awarded album The E.N.D, which earned them Grammys for Best short For Music Video for “Boom Boom Pow” and Best Pop Vocal album.
Around the release of The E.N.D, will.i.am announced he working on a solo album entitled #willpower. Whilst he was working on his fourth solo album, will.i.am worked with a number of top artists such as Cheryl Cole, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Alicia Keys amongst others.
Will.i.am worked with Britney Spears on the smash hit #1 single “Scream and Shout” which was taken from his fourth album along with the singles, "This Is Love" and "#thatPOWER".
In June 2013, Will.i.am worked with industry experts Jessie J, Tom Jones and The Script’s Danny O'Donoghue, on the BBC’s singing competition, The Voice, where he mentored talent Irish contestant Leah McFall in his team of hopefuls.
As well as music and production, will.i.am has a keen interest in electronics and robotics. He was given the position as Director of creative innovation by Intel, and is also developing robotic musical pets as his next project.
Will.iam is hotly tipped to bring over his young protégé Leah McFall who he mentored in the second series of the BBC singing talent of The Voice when he headlines the Pepsi Max Stage on Sunday the 14th July 2013.
The Northern Ireland singer revealed that the pair had been rehearsing for something big, and will.i.am said that the dynamic duo had been working on a new ballad that will be “the most heart-melting song of our lives”.
Life is certainly good for will.i.am. He announced his decision to move his record label to the UK, after he described the country as “fresh”, adding “… I've got a global perspective, thinking global and acting local."
Will.i.am performed at Wireless Festival on Sunday 14th July 2013 to the delight of his thousands of fans. As Katy B finished warming up the audience, will.i.am took to the stage with a dark shirt/jacket and received a rapturous applause.
Leah McFall joined the “Scream & Shout” singer on stage which had been rumoured to happen, and The Voice finalist sang “Bang Bang” with her mentor, to the delight of the crowd.
After causing a frenzy of excitement, will.i.am had an even bigger surprise. As his platform moved to the front with himself and the mixing desk; two giant robots appeared on either side of the singer, dancing in time with his party dance music.
