William James Adams aka will.i.am, was born 15th March 1975 and is from Los Angeles, California, United States of America.
The multi-talented will.i.a.m is better known for his part in pop and hip-hop band The Black Eyed Peas, and now; as a successful solo singer and producer in his own right.
Will.i.am was passionate about rapping from an early age where he formed a rap partnership with fellow rapper Allan Pineda (apl.de.ap) and student Dante Santiago. Known as Will 1X (in his early days), Will.i.am formed Black Eye Pods and signed to major label Interscope Records. Finding success with the group’s early releases, the Black Eyed Pods became known as the Black Eyed Peas in 1997.
He was highly influenced by his early rave days while he was experimenting with his fusion of dance, hip-hop and electronica, which would become his signature trademark in years to come.
The Black Eyed Peas began to take shape, and their sound more defined with the arrival of the group’s third studio album Elephunk, and the final person to complete the group; female vocalist Fergie.
Elephunk was the group’s first big commercial success and reached the Top 5 on the UK Albums Chart, and sold over one and a half million copies in the UK alone, as well as nearly 10 million copies worldwide. The album contained the hit singles "Where Is The Love?" and "Shut Up" and "Hey Mama".
The group’s biggest success came with “Where Is The Love” (The E.N.D) which topped the charts in the UK, Europe and the US with the #1 spot across all charts. The song gained even more recognition when the song was used in the film Hot Tub Time Machine.
In 2003, the Black Eyed Peas completed work on their second album ‘Monkey Business’ with Fergie (fourth studio album as a group), which proved to be another massive success, selling over10 million copies worldwide, and earning the band several Grammy nominations. The group won a Grammy for Best Rap performance in the US.
With Black Eyed Peas reaching the peak of their career, will.i.am focused his career aspirations on a new project – Songs About Girls. The album was a biographical account of a hip-hop producer who gets led astray when he ‘makes’ it in the music industry and loses the love of his life.
A year later and will.i.am collaborated with many high profile artists on the charity album ‘Songs for Survival” as well a working on a clever political album which was produced about President Barack Obama during the New Hampshire presidential primary election.
After a four year absence will.i.am decided to return with The Black Eyed Peas and released the group’s biggest accomplishment to date The E.N.D. The album contained the smash hits "Boom Boom Pow", "I Gotta Feeling", "Meet Me Halfway", "Imma Be", "Rock That Body" and “Missing You”, and propelled the group to the #1 spot in the UK (R&B Chart) and #1 US Billboard Chart.
The E.N.D album was followed by The E.N.D World Tour which took the group to The O2 Arena in London, and The O2 in Dublin.
Soon after their World Tour, will.i.am returned with Black Eyed Peas once more for their next album, The Beginning. Ironically, it would be the end of the group’s performances together, whilst the individual members went their separate ways to work on solo projects.
#willpower, will.i.am’s latest studio album release was released 19th April 2013 and was produced by will.i.am amongst other hot dance producers such as Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Lazy Jay. Singles “This Is Love”, “Bang Bang” and “Scream & Shout” proved to be popular, with “Bang Bang” being used in the film The Great Gatsby.
