About Wales Rugby
Although rugby was founded in England in 1823, many dismiss this as a mere technicality and insist the Wales is the true home of Rugby.
The Wales Rugby team is nicknamed "The Red Dragons" and the current Captain is Sam Warburton. Top scorer for the team is Neil Jenkins with 1,049 and the player with the most tries is Shane Williams.
Certainly the impressive history of the Welsh Rugby Team goes a long way to demonstrating this. The Wales Rugby Team played its first competitive international match in 1881, entering the Home Countries Tournament, now named the RBS Six Nations.
Since 2000 Wales’ RBS Six Nations matches have consisted of Wales v England, Wales v Scotland, Wales v Ireland, Wales v France and Wales v Scotland.
The real period of Welsh rugby dominance took place between 1969 and 1980 where the Wales rugby team won eight Five Nations rugby tournaments. Wales are ranked 5th in the IRB (International Rugby Board) World Rankings.
