About 5 Seconds of Summer
Pop-rock and punk-rock is what 5 Seconds of Summer are about. The band which formed in 2011 in Sydney saw a meteoric rise in fame after One Direction invited them on their 2013 Take Me Home Tour.
The band comprises Luke Hemmings, who covers lead vocals and guitar, guitarist Michael Clifford, Calum Hood on bass guitar and drummer Ashton Irwin.
In 2011 5SOS started posting cover videos on Youtube. It went down well and they soon developed a strong following across social media. The boys toured their native Australia in 2012 and, soon after, joined One Direction on the road where they opened for the band during their Australian, Northern America, UK and Irish dates.
5 Seconds of Summer’s rise continued, particularly across social media where they have become no stranger to being the focus of a trending tweet.
In 2014 5 Seconds of Summer once again joined One Direction on tour. This time they were playing stadiums. They also embarked on their own headline tours of the UK, Europe, North America and Australia.
5 Seconds of Summer released their self-titled debut album in 2014. The album followed their No.1 single She Looks So Perfect.
Along with their commercial success, the boys have already won and have been nominated for numerous awards from MTV’s VMAs to the Teen Choice Awards.
