Animal Collective
Animal Collective consists of long-time childhood friends Avey Tare (vocals, synthesizers, piano, guitar, sampler, sequencer, percussion); Panda Bear (vocals, drums, sampler, percussion); Deakin (vocals, baritone guitar, sampler, percussion) and Geologist (sampler, synthesizers, piano, percussion). The band-members are from Baltimore, USA and came together to form Animal Collective in the late ‘90s.
Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished is considered the band’s first group album. Animal Collective came to be known for their seminal hit “My Girls” which pushed the band into the limelight in 2009 with their psychedelic influenced electronica and rock undertones.
The UK music press called the album which contained the hit single “My Girls” “One of the best albums of 2009” while Merriweather Post Pavilion experimented with various live recording techniques.
In between the follow-up album Centipede Hz, Animal Collective released a visual album Oddsac on DVD and the band created an art installation at Guggenheim Museum in New York, as well as releasing solo albums Avey Tare's Down There (2010) and Panda Bear's Tomboy (2011).
Animal Collective toured throughout California in 2011, with an appearance at Coachella music festival in 2011 and later in the year a show at Merriweather Post Pavilion in July 2011.
