Babyshambles burst onto the scene in 2003 with ex-Libertines singer Pete Doherty and then band members Patrick Walden (lead guitar), Gemma Clarke (drums and percussion), Adam Ficek (drums and percussion) and Danny Goffey (drums and percussion).
The current line-up is Mick Whitnall (lead guitar) Drew McConnell (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Stereophonics’ Jamie Morrison on drums and percussion.
The punk-indie-rock band was created in the midst of an explosive finale with Carl Barat of The Libertines. Pete Doherty was accused of stealing from him, and Babyshambles became a sideline for the erratic singer/songwriter.
The band’s eponymous first single was released on a limited edition CD and vinyl run, and gave them enough impetus to go on tour in September and October 2004, which included a performance at The Scala in London. The tour was highly successful and led onto a second UK tour in January 2005, although the second tour was blighted with a number of problems caused by the bands drink and drugs problems.
Undergoing a number of band member changes, Babyshambles went on the work with Mick Jones (The Clash) who had previously worked with Pete and The Libertines. The band’s debut album ‘Down in Albion’ secured the band their first Top 10 and the first single from the album “Fuck Forever” reached #4 on the UK Singles Chart.
Babyshambles reputation preceded them as they were dropped as support for Brit Pop mega band Oasis, when Pete Doherty failed to make their first appearance and a number of band changes took place through the mid 2000s.
The band had further success when they signed to Parlophone, and continued to release new material, including a Clash cover: “Janie Jones” and another limited edition song “Beg, Steal or Borrow” as well as headlining festival Get Loaded in the Park.
In October 2007, Babyshambles released their second album which would prove to be the band’s final output before more band member changes occurred. Three years later Babyshambles began working on a third album, and a number of new autumn shows were announced in April 2013.
