About Beyoncé

Beyoncé rose to fame as one part of the best-selling R&B girl group, Destiny’s Child. Destiny’s Child proved popular from the off when they released their self-titled 1998 debut, Destiny’s Child. The album set the scene for what was to become one of the most successful careers in pop history.

Over the next five years Destiny’s Child released multi-Platinum certified albums, such as 1999’s The Writing’s On The Wall, Survivor in 2001 and the prophetically titled, final album Destiny Fulfilled.

In just five years they released a body of work very few other artists would manage to match in a lifetime. Songs such as Say My Name, Survivor, Soldier, Independent Women Part I, and Bootylicious are just some of the many chart-breaking singles. Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child’s legacy can be heard on their best-of hits collection titled Number 1’s.

Released after the band had already broken up, the singles collection, like the band’s regular studio albums, scooped several Platinum certifications. In total Beyoncé’s Destiny’s Child shifted over 40 million records worldwide. Sadly, internal differences led to the split of one of the most successful girl groups of all times.

However, true to her former band’s song Survivor, Beyoncé Knowles was not ready to leave the limelight and while still with Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé took baby steps towards life after the band but stopped short of releasing solo material.

Her solo debut arrived in form of the highly anticipated Dangerously In Love album. The album continued the success Beyoncé had enjoyed with her former band. The follow-up to the album arrived three years later in 2006 as the song collection B’Day, which equalled the critical and sales success of Dangerously In Love.

Beyoncé had successfully managed to step out of the shadow of her former band and convince former Destiny’s Child fans, as well as win over many new ones. Beyoncé’s next step was the 2008 double album, I Am … Sasha Fierce. I Am … Sasha Fierce marked Beyoncé’s most ambitious release to date.

Split over 2 discs, I Am, the album’s first disc, includes a collection of songs, which drew inspiration of acoustic, alternative and folk music and features the single If I Were a Boy. The second disc, Sasha Fierce, explores Beyoncé’s feisty alter ego. The track has a more urban, up-tempo vibe and includes the singles Halo, Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) and Diva.

Another single was taken off the album. Released in July 2010, Why Don't You Love Me was Beyoncé’s gap-stop release to shorten the waiting time for her as yet untitled forthcoming new album.

In early spring 2011, Beyoncé announced a historic date as the first female to perform at the world famous ‘rock’ festival Glastonbury and wowed the crowds with her feisty, energetic dance moves and diva voice.

In the summer time of 2011, Beyoncé announced that she was pregnant and expecting her first child with Jay-Z. She also released her fourth album, 4, in June 2011. The album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 and was her fourth consecutive hit album to date.

It was the first album since cutting her ties with her father Matthew Knowles and was inspired by her break from the music world where she took time out from her busy schedule. Her fourth effort focused on ballads, and moved away from her R&B sounds from her previous releases.
