Biffy Clyro
Biffy Clyro is an alternative band formed in 1995 in Ayrshire. The band consists of childhood friends Simon Neil (vocals/guitar) and twins James (bass/vocals) and Ben Johnston (drums/vocals).
Throughout their 17 year career Biffy Clyro have achieved numerous music awards; notably two Kerrang! Awards for Best Music Video (2010) and Classic Songwriter (2011).
They were influenced by the likes of heavy metal bands like Metallica and Guns N’Roses, but developed their own unique sound which made them popular in Glasgow. After being spotted at Scottish music festival T in the Park, Biffy Clyro signed to indie label Beggar’s Banquet.
Biffy Clyro soon released a number of singles (“27”, “Justboy”, “57”) and their debut album Blackened Sky received a good response from the public. Their second album The Vertigo of Bliss (2003) incorporated more strings and led them onto a long tour across the UK.
The band built up a massive fan-base gained through vital radio-play on BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe’s show. Simon Neil released a solo album - The Magnificent Duke, and toured separately from the band in the UK.
Biffy Clyro’s big break came with their fourth album: Puzzle. The album propelled them from the underground into the mainstream. Puzzle sold over 250,000 copies and was produced in LA with Garth Richardson who worked with the likes of Rage Against The Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In 2007 Biffy Clyro played at every major music festival including Download, Leeds and Reading Festival, and supported the likes of Muse and The Rolling Stones on tour.
