Britney Spears is one of the few pop artists from the last ten years that, if you mentioned her name to most people on the planet, they would know at least one track from her massive repertoire of songs which gained her the titles of "Princess of Pop" and "Queen of Pop".
Britney Spears was born 2nd December 1981 and is from Mississippi, U.S. She burst onto the British Charts with her track "...Baby One More Time" and "Oops!... I Did It Again" in 1999 and her provocative video for "...Baby One More Time" featured Britney Spears in a racy school girl outfit and pigtails that certainly got her noticed by the Press and general public.
From an early age Britney Spears was involved with singing/acting and dancing and as a child attended many auditions. Certainly gifted, the young Spears had her break when a family friend and entertainment lawyer gave a tape of Britney Spears to A&R, and the rest is history!
Her debut album titled ...Baby One More Time sold over 28 million copies worldwide and was her most successful album to date. The album contained five smash hit singles: "...Baby One More Time", "Sometimes", "(You Drive Me) Crazy", "Born to Make You Happy”, "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart". Her Oops!... I Did It Again World Tour brought in millions of dollars and Britney Spears was definitely on the road to success.
After wowing the masses with her provocative dance moves, the sexy singer made tongues wag even further with the growing rumours that the pop star was dating male pop heart throb Justin Timberlake from the now defunct boyband NSYNC.
In the early 2000s, Britney Spears took over the world with a huge advertising campaign with Pepsi and made pop history when she shared a passionate kiss with the Queen of Pop herself: Madonna, at the 2003 MTV Music Awards.
She also famously went onto break up with Timberlake and he released the single “Cry Me A River” which featured a Britney Spears lookalike in his music video and sparked speculation that the singer had cheated on him.
Her next offering In the Zone (2003) was another roaring success with over 10 million copies sold worldwide. The album contained the hit singles "Me Against the Music", a collaboration with Madonna; "Toxic" and many more hits.
Britney Spears had reached her peak before the mid 2000s but it was all about to change when she went on to marry US dancer Kevin “K-Feds” Federline. Britney Spears had previously briefly married childhood sweetheart Jason Allen Alexander but the marriage was annulled after it was pronounced that Spears was unaware of her actions at the Las Vegas wedding. The next few years saw Britney Spears go from ultra successful pop star to a fallen woman. The marriage to K-Feds was an unhappy one and fame and money appeared to be taking their toll on the relatively young singer.
Her sixth album Circus (2008) was another success and debuted at number one around the world. It was to be her last studio album for a while as Britney Spears spent time trying to rebuild her broken life and focused on herself.
In 2011, Britney Spears went on to release her seventh studio album Femme Fatale which featured the hit “Gimme More”.
