Counting Crows
Counting Crows is an American alternative rock band from Berkley, California. The band compromises of Adam Duritz (vocalist, occasional pianist, and primary songwriter), David Bryson (guitarist), Charlie Gillingham (multi-instrumentalist), Dan Vickrey (lead guitarist), David Immerglück (guitarist), Jim Bogios and Millard Powers. Previous members were Matt Malley (bass guitar), Ben Mize (drums, vocals) and Steve Bowman (drummer).
The name of the band was taken from the film Signs of Life and the band has been producing music for over 20 years.
Finding fame by playing at various gigs in the San Francisco area, Counting Crows grew highly popular after the release of their first album August and Everything After (1993).
They toured extensively during 1994-1995. Hits from the album include "Round Here", "Sullivan Street" and "Mr. Jones". For their second album Recovering the Satellites, Counting Crows former Cracker drummer Ben Mize replaced the departed Bowman; and guitarist Dan Vickrey also joined them.
By their third album This Desert Life (1999), Duritz had to have surgery after he developed nodules on his throat. Later, the band performed at Woodstock festival (in 1999).
Hard Candy (2002) and Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings (2008) followed on from their successful earlier albums and during the 2000s, gave a number of live performances such as iTunes Live from SoHo and SoHo Apple Store in New York City.
