Dead Can Dance
Dead Can Dance (DCD) originate from Melbourne, Australia and is now only a two-piece outfit: Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. Originally the band was Lisa Gerrard (ex-Microfilm) on vocals, Simon Monroe (Marching Girls) on drums and Brendan Perry (Marching Girls) on vocals and guitar.
Dead Can Dance formed in 1981 and was active until 1998 and then again briefly in 2005, and then 2011 until present. Their music encompasses sounds from Middle East, Africa and Britain.
Moving from their hometown of Melbourne to east London, in order to pursue their music career, Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry found it difficult to adjust to life in the concrete jungle, and after months of hunting for a record deal, they finally managed to secure a deal with 4AD.
Throughout the ‘90s Dead Can Dance had seminal success with Into the Labyrinth (1993) and Spiritchaser (#1, 1996) and they released special VHS and (later) DVD editions of their shows. Dead Can Dance disbanded after they produced Spiritchaser and in 2011 the band announced their new World Tour which is due to begin in August 2012.
