About Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran, who spent most of 2013 touring with the American country star Taylor Swift, has gained a huge following since he was propelled into the limelight in 2011 with his hit album +. The singer cemented himself as a firm favourite in British music with his bluesy voice, sparse intimate instrumentation and candid lyrics.
Halifax-born Ed Sheeran began his music career with the independent release of his The Orange Room EP in 2005. More DIY releases and collaborations with artists from genres as varied as hip-hop, grime and indie followed. Notably he made it to No.2 in the iTunes chart without any label or promotion with his EP No.5 Collaborations Project, which featured Wiley, JME, Devlin, Sway and Ghetts.
Ed Sheeran was then signed by Atlantic Records and released his debut single The A Team from his album +. His album, that was released in 2011, went to No.1 in the charts and contained the singles The A Team, Lego House, Drunk and You Need Me, I Don’t Need You.
In 2012 Ed Sheeran continued to gain popularity in the UK and won two BRIT Awards for Best British Male and British Breakthrough while the A Team won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically and was nominated for the Song of the Year award at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
Despite not releasing a solo album since his debut + in 2011, Sheeran has been busy with writing songs for One Direction, Over Again and Little Things, and made a guest appearance on Taylor Swift’s Red album before touring with her in 2013. Sheeran also performed with the musical legend Elton John during the 2013 Grammy Awards.
2014 is set to see the release of his much anticipated second album, which has been produced by Rick Rubin. Ahead of the album Sheeran has released his first solo single in over two years, I See Fire, which is part of the The Hobbit: The Desoloation of Smaug soundtrack and used in the end credits of the movie.
